Dustin Ratliff named as Schwendeman Outstanding Senior in Aviation
Mr. Dustin Ratliff has been named the 2014 Joseph Schwendeman Outstanding Senior in Aviation. He was honored during a presentation on Friday, April 3, 2014, at the annual Aviation program’s College to Careers Conference. This is the first year the award.
Ratliff was selected based on superior academic achievement, excellent leadership, citizenship, character and services to EKU.
The award is named for Dr. Joseph Schwendeman, a former Naval aviator, who retired from Eastern Kentucky University where he held positions from chairman of the Geography/Geology Department, Dean of Undergraduate Studies, and Vice President for Facilities Administration. He also served on the board for several years at the Madison Airport.
Schwendeman’s zeal for aviation led to the establishment of the Aviation degree program at Eastern Kentucky University, which is the only degreed university flight program in Kentucky.
At the conference Ratliff along with six other recent graduates of the aviation program were also honored by being presented with a 1250-hour Power Certificates. These honors were bestowed amidst peers and faculty of the aviation program.
