Beardsley Named Spring 2022 Distinguished Senior for Aviation and Applied Engineering and Technology

The faculty of the Eastern Kentucky University Aviation Program recently named Brandon “Tyler” Beardsley as the Distinguished Senior for Spring 2022.

At a ceremony held on campus, Aviation Executive Director Dennis Sinnett said “This was an easy decision and it was unanimous among the faculty. I can’t think of another student who has accomplished more and given back as much in their time in the program than Tyler has.”

Beardsley was also presented with the Distinguished Senior Award for the Department of Applied Engineering and Technology which includes not only the Aviation Program but also students in Construction Management and Engineering Technology Management.

“Students like Tyler are the reason we enjoy doing what we do,” said Dennis Field, Interim Chair of the Department. “They are also the reason our programs are as successful s they are.”

Tyler is a native of Richmond and a graduate of Madison Central High School. After high school, Tyler served in the United States Air Force for over five years as an Armament Systems Specialist and still holds that position as a member of the Indiana Air National Guard

Tyler has held a variety of positions as a student at EKU as well including as a student worker in the EKU VETS office and more recently as student worker in the EKU Aviation Virtual Reality Flight Simulator Lab. In the VR Lab, his efforts helped bring the lab online during the Spring of 2021 and he has since overseen and implemented numerous upgrades. Thanks in large part to Tyler’s efforts, the lab has hosted hundreds of students form EKU as well as high schools around the state. All these efforts have led the lab to becoming one of the largest of its kid at any university in the United States.

In addition to his student worker positions, Tyler has been an active member of the campus and aviation communities, holding memberships in multiple student organizations, aviation trade organizations, and serving as an Aviation Student Ambassador. He is also an accomplished pilot, having recently completed his Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) rating and joining the staff of the EKU Aviation program as a Flight Instructor.

Tyler will graduate on May 13th with high distinction, earning a B.S. in Aviation including concentrations in both Professional Flight and Aerospace Management. He plans to continue flying as an instructor with the program as he works towards his future aviation career goals.
