Five Aviation Students Earn SEC-AAAE/SAMA Scholarships

Five students in the Aviation Program at Eastern Kentucky University were recently awarded scholarships from the Southeast Chapter of the American Association of Airport Executives (SEC-AAAE) and the Southeast Airport Manager’s Association (SAMA). Each scholarship, to be applied towards the cost of tuition, is valued at $2,000.

Aviation Adds Three Aircraft to Fleet

The EKU Aviation program recently added three aircraft to its fleet in an effort to support increasing demand from students. The planes, Cessna 17 R and S models, arrived within the last month and will be flown extensively according to Aviation Program Director Dennis Sinnett.

Volunteer Experience Takes Off in Support of Kentucky Veterans

A little more than a year ago, a small group of students from Eastern Kentucky University’s Aviation Program arrived at Blue Grass Airport with the understanding they would be helping a local organization setup for an event to honor veterans. The instructions were simple: show up, volunteer for a few hours, and go home.

Five Aviation students were recently awarded scholarships at a ceremony held at Central Kentucky Regional Airport. The event, which took place on EKU’s Homecoming Weekend, was attended by faculty, staff, and both current and former students. The amount of each award varies and are available exclusively to currently enrolled students in the Aviation Program.

Serious enough that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) held a day-long Aviation Workforce Symposium on the topic Thursday, Sept. 13, and invited Eastern Kentucky University to participate in a panel discussion on partnerships to address the crisis.
